The Hall family has lived in the Lincoln Park historic district
since 1974, a little over 29 years. They purchased this
home at 1116 Sherman from Dr. Hetherington, a beloved Danville
physician. Sharon comments that people tend to stay in
this neighborhood - people grow up together here. She
feels that it's an old-fashioned community where people care
about each other. Sharon is particularly fond of the big
front porch and the long side yard; she often jokes that this
property is the closest thing to a farm in the city that she
could find. This home also acquires its historic character
from beautiful oak woodwork, thick plaster walls, and a full
beam [ceiling] attic that Sharon dreams of turning into a
library.
At one time this home served as the parish house for the
Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. During the 1950's and 60's
Father and Frances Reed lived here with their five children.
Sharon said her favorite plants include roses and lilacs, along
with the redbud tree and dogwoods. Sharon also enjoys
tracking down unusual herbs and making these finds a part of
her landscape. One of her biggest landscaping challenges
occured several years ago when she lost two favorite trees. One,
was a Norway Maple that was over 100 years old, and the other,
an even older Double Burr Oak.
