Harry Turnell Webber built this Colonial Revival
style home built in 1916. The Webbers sold the house to Charles
and Orilla Wymer in 1931. Charles died in 1940 and Orilla lived
in the home until 1962. Eloise Wymer resided in the home until
1975. Walter and Marguerite Maguire bought the home in 1978.
The Maguire's made significant updates to the wiring, insulation
and siding. The Burgess' purchased the home in 1991.
Landscaping challenges at the Burgess home include kids,
dogs, shade, old timber soil with plenty of clay and a
reluctance to use chemicals - all of which make growing
grass a bit of a trial. At first glance, this
property may give the impression of limited space, but
it actually has an expansive side yard to the east, with
a more formal side yard facing Logan Avenue and a front
yard area facing Center Street. Interesting level
changes, added stone and old brick features, white picket
fence and a pergola create various garden areas, both public
and private. Lisa's favorite fragrant flower is the
lilac, and their yard has four varieties of this old-fashioned
traditional plant. Other favorites include the boxwood
for its evergreen, leafy texture; David Austen roses for
old-fashioned fragrance and no fuss care; perennial geraniums,
"Johnson's Blue" and "Ballerina"; and the show-stopping
hydrangeas by their front door.
Scott and Lisa believe that their home stands as a testimony to
the integrity of the construction and desigh of the period, and
view themselves as trustees of this timeless house.
